What's your number?
Ps. 90:12
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom”
None of us knows exactly how long we will have on this earth. Sure, the Bible talks about 70, maybe 80 years that God says is the number of the years of man. We don’t really know how long we have, though. For every day that we live, we can only be certain of one thing, death is swiftly approaching. “Boast not thyself of tomorrow, for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.” Pr. 27:1. “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. What is your life? It is even a vapor that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” James 4:14
Our life is so short, maybe tonight we will be facing the Lord. If you were to be told you would die tonight, what would you want to be sure gets done? Why not make sure it gets done, anyways? We aren’t guaranteed tomorrow.
So what should we be filling our vapour with? Well, we are told to number our days, and apply our hearts unto wisdom. “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be, also.”
If we apply our hearts unto wisdom, then we will be using our time on earth in the way that God wants us to. Sometimes what God wants us to do, will seem foolish to other people, but we are not to be pleasing other people, we are to please God.
So how do we get wisdom? I’m so glad you asked me that question. I was hoping you would. J
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
As we learn to fear the Lord, we will grow closer to Him. As we grow closer to Him, we gain wisdom. Why? Because He is wisdom, he is Omniscient, all wise, or all knowing.  He will guide us in how we should be going. He even guides us with His eye.  He cares so much about us, that He longs to take us under His wings, and teach us, and train us, and guide us.
“If any man lack wisdom let Him ask of God”
Our life is too short to try to live out on our own. “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
The way that we think is the right way, if we are not asking God for wisdom, and going to those who God has put in our path to give us wisdom, can be the way that will spiritually kill us. Sometimes it will actually physically kill us. It may seem like it is a good thing to hang around this group of people, and participate in their doings, after all, it isn’t absolutely wrong…..They just aren’t doing what is right. “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it IS sin.”
So you have the choice to live for the Lord….or live for self.

The days are short, the time is near
The hour is dark, the call is clear
Why then do we, if we are holy
Not go and reach those who are lowly?
Why do we sit and play all the day
Pretending the darkness will just pass away
No, my friend, it will not go
It will only get worse, as you should know
The time for us to act as we should
To witness and do those things that are good
Is now, not later, before it’s too late
And those we hold dear, won’t reach Heaven’s Gate.
